Hello to the wonderful Wildern School community, my name is Ben Wainwright and I am privileged to be the Director of PE & Sport at the school. Having joined Wildern in September 2021, I set about establishing three overall aims that I wanted the PE department to aim towards. This centred around embedding the highest quality PE curriculum, driving the success of our academic results for examination PE and giving endless opportunities to all students in terms of extra-curricular sport. Although we have yet to reach our end goal in respect of those three aims, we are very much on our way, and that is through the tireless efforts of both students and staff alike.
As a school, we are incredibly blessed to have a fantastic PE department who have such a broad range of specialisms that allow our students to experience and learn skills across a spectrum of sporting activities. This is then supplemented by an incredible array of facilities that our students are blessed with, ranging from our very own indoor heated swimming pool, state of the art fitness suite and a plethora of outdoor sports areas. Once this is combined with students who have a real passion for all things PE & Sport, then we are able to create something really special which has been very evident across the year.
Success on the sporting field continues to grow year upon year with individual students and teams who represent Wildern achieving phenomenally well yet again. We continue our proud tradition of fielding strong teams across Football, Rugby, Netball, Basketball, Cricket and Athletics with local & County honours gained in these sports. However, we also ensure we offer students an opportunity to take part in sports clubs beyond our core traditions including trampolining, swimming, badminton, rounders & tennis affording every student that chance to find that love of sport.
We are continuing to work tirelessly behind the scenes to continue driving forward our PE & Sports offer, the recent addition of our new Summer Golf Club being a prime example of this, and we hope you join us on our pursuit of putting PE & School Sport at the very heart of life here at Wildern School.

The Experience of a Workplace visits took place this week with 175 students spending 2 days out in the world of work. This provides the students with the opportunity to explore and prepare for employment, gaining an insight into interpersonal skills, communication skills, teamwork and time management.
A huge thank you to Parents/Guardians who have supported and helped the students to find and secure these placements. We are also very grateful to those of you who have had our students in your places of work. We really appreciate you spending time out of your day to support our young people. If you would like to get involved next year please email the careers department at careers@wildern.org
On Wednesday we had a lovely afternoon in the sunshine with our Year 11 students collecting hoodies, yearbooks and Prom tickets. They have worked so hard and deserve a lovely relaxing summer.

Harrison’s Story
This film, based on the real-life story, encourages students to consider the potential dangers of trespassing on the railway or land near the railway. Harrison was only playing football with his friends. He didn’t expect the electricity to jump.
To run this activity, play the film below. Further information, along with discussion questions, can be found in the teacher guidance.

In the same way as Sustainability tip 5, was all about recycling and not using things for a single time. These tips are all about our plastic usage and how we can make some positive, easy changes that will reduce our plastic waste.
Here are some depressing facts about how plastics are destroying our oceans:
- There may now be around 5.25 trillion macro and microplastic pieces floating in the open ocean weighing up to 269,000 tonnes.
- 100,000 marine mammals and turtles and 1 million sea birds are killed by marine plastic pollution annually.
- By adapting our habits slightly we can all make such a big difference. #saveouroceans

College Taster Days
The first of this summer's College Taster Days goes out on Monday 26th June to Peter Symonds. Please ensure that you have discussed the following with your child:
- Students will now be able to view their timetable for the day by logging in (with their email and password that they used to set up their registration account) at www.psc.ac.uk/year10.
- Students will also be able to view individual timetables and registers by logging in to your school account from this page. If you require password assistance, please click on 'forgotten password' to reset or contact us in Admissions.
- From their account, you will also be able to view general information regarding arrangements/requirements for Y10 Taster Day.
- Students will be provided with a £5 lunch voucher to be used in any College catering outlet on their Y10 Taster Day. They can also redeem this voucher for a picnic bag lunch. Please remember that the College is not a nut-free campus and so those students with severe allergies are advised to bring a packed lunch.
- On arrival, students are asked to go straight to their Welcome session. In addition to a map on their account, student guides will be on campus to help with directions. Registers will be taken at every session (completed online) and you will be able to view this information via your school account.
- All students must be in school uniform

What Parents and Carers Need to Know about OmeTV
OmeTV is an emerging social networking app that aims to let its users connect, ideally forming new friendships or simply getting to meet interesting people from all around the world. It’s not particularly new technology, but it’s remained popular amongst younger audiences. OmeTV uses video chats to randomly connect its users, much like its better-known sister app, Omegle.
Unfortunately, OmeTV still carries the same risks as its competitors. With so many users being so lightly regulated, there’s real potential for some unpleasant characters to make use of the app. Our guide dives into OmeTV, highlighting the risks and advising you on how to keep your child safe on the app.
