Hello, I'm Laura Day, Arts Centre Manager at The Dart.

The Dart is a vibrant community space offering a diverse mix of affordable, creative experiences for everyone, including art, dance and music.  We offer a host of classes and courses for adults including gouache painting, pottery, dressmaking, floristry and cookery.  We have some interesting social clubs too, including a monthly book club, open mic and film night.  During the holidays we offer popular art and cookery clubs for children aged 4-16.

Let us tell you a little bit about The Dart Team and our own creative talents!

Laura (top left) studied Fine Art at Winchester School of Art as a mature student and went on to complete an MA in Short Film Making.  You can usually find her in thinking mode, planning the future of The Dart!

Sarah (top middle) specialised in Photography at Arts University Bournemouth and went on to study an MA in Visual Communication at Solent.  You can usually find her creating art with the local community in The Dart Foyer and leading our Children's Art Programme!

Jasmine (top right) studied at Wildern and went on to specialise in Visual Merchandising.  You can usually find her supporting our Hirers and getting everything and everyone organised!

Jo (bottom left) studied Hospitality at Eastleigh College.  She loves working with children and enjoys mindfulness hobbies such as yoga, colouring & reading. You can usually find her organising our spreadsheets or welcoming families to the Centre

Michelle is extremely passionate about music and regularly volunteers at music festivals, you can usually find her supporting our evening hirers and popping post-it notes on your desk!

Amy (bottom right) also studied at Wildern!  She is very creative and loves drawing and lettering.  You can usually find her writing up our chalkboards and designing marketing materials for our events.

What's on at The Dart this Summer?

We have lots of wonderful things for you to get involved in this Summer.  We will be hosting FREE printmaking workshops every Tuesday morning as part of our Creative Residency Programme.  There will also be a low-cost Summer Family Film night in August as well as an amazing opportunity to take part in art workshops with six local, professional artists as The Dart Foyer becomes a venue for Hampshire Open Studios from 19-28th August.

For all the details, click on the links below or give us a call on 01489 779471 to find out more.  We're looking forward to meeting you!

Arson

We have had a report that some small fires have been set recently in some of the local parks and nature reserves. These have been reported to us by the local council and volunteers who work in the reserves. Please could you talk to your child about the dangers of setting small fires, either in the open or in litter bins. Where we cannot guarantee that these are Wildern students, young people of secondary school age have been seen at the site of one of the fires. Luckily the fires have been extinguished before any real damage to property, wildlife or the young people themselves has happened. If you are concerned about your child or a child you may know you can refer to the Fire Wise Education Programme where they can help with educating young people on the risks involved.

What Parents and Carers Need to Know about Amino

A sprawling online discussion forum with incentives for checking in each day and the facility to follow certain users, Amino bears comparison to Reddit – but with an added sprinkle of Snapchat and a Twitter twist. It may not be radically original, but’s proving popular: there are now more than a million communities of fans exchanging views on topics from anime to zombies.

The concept is to recreate the passion and excitement of live conventions in the online world: from behind their screens and keyboards, however, not everyone behaves as well as they might in person. From hurtful comments to age-inappropriate images and predatory messaging, our guide highlights some potential hazards to protect young users from.
