Welcome to our end of year Wildern Weekly. What a successful 90th year it has been so far!

Our students have been recognised for their energy, talent and hard work across the year with over 236,568 positive erefs and that is not counting all the postcards that arrive on the door mat, chocolate bars, certificates, hot chocolate and doughnut vouchers, deputy headteacher breakfasts and the 350 students I have had lunch with this year for achieving 700+ erefs.  36 students managed to break the magical 1000 eref mark and once again the top five student in the school have won a pair of tickets to Thorpe Park.  This is such an amazing achievement!

The last two weeks have been action packed with really important extra-curricular aspects of school from our 90th birthday through to external visits including Paultons Park to our ever successful Sports Day! Well done everyone for making this term such a success.

Life in school has continued to be busy as we draw to a close and prepare for the new academic year. We have, as always, lost colleagues to promotion, promoted internally and indeed recruited some new teachers who will join us in September.

And now with the holidays on the horizon, we look forward to a lots of sand, sea and sunshine and that “summer is singing with joy, and the beaches are inviting you with dancing waves” (Debasish Mridha) - I believe we all deserve a little of this.

With best wishes,

Ceri Oakley
Headteacher

Recent events @ Wildern

On Monday 18 July we held our annual Colours Celebration Evening for students who have been committed to representing Wildern in the Arts and PE. Over 100 students and staff attended and were served a delicious dinner by Chef Dan and his team before being awarded with their Half Colours Badge or Full Colours tie. We had 3 fantastic music performances from Paige L, Michelle Y and Isabelle D. We look forward to seeing more of our students wearing their Colours awards with pride around the school.

On Tuesday our fantastic Language Leaders were recognised for all their hard work with their certificates, student leader badges and a hot chocolate. They have worked all year promoting language learning and supporting our students

Wednesday our Young Carers had a trip to Fairthorne Manor and the last of our 700+ Headteachers eRef lunches was also held

Congratulations also to Ava M, Elizabeth D, Jasmine B, Reuben, L, Aleksander G, and Duncan T for winning a pair of Thorpe park tickets each for having the top eref scores in the whole school this year.

Students were shown their timetables for September on Thursday and they will be emailed to them again during the summer holidays.

Please have a well earned rest and enjoy your Summer. We cannot wait to hear about your holidays when you return!

Vaping

We have been asked to share this letter from the local authority about Vaping. We are all aware that underage vaping is on the rise nationally and so the information on this letter is helpful with regards to how we can talk to our children about the dangers of Vaping.

Please take a moment to have a read.

This week our student leaders continued working hard, serving the school and representing the kind of active involvement we hope all students grasp. There have been two evening events, the Colours Evening and Miss Litton’s Retirement, where prefects have been serving food and drinks, creating a hospitable environment for all attending, and having fun whilst doing so. Exceptional students to be working alongside!

How to Stay Safe Online this Summer

With the school summer holidays here, many parents and carers will already be planning outings and activities to keep their young ones entertained. In between those special summer moments, though, there are also likely to be occasions when children happily invest a whole afternoon in Among Us or spend most of their Monday on Minecraft.

As young people’s screen time almost inevitably increases over the holidays, parents like to feel confident that their child will stay safe while they’re exploring the digital world. So we’ve produced a poster with some simple solutions to help children avoid frequent online pitfalls and enjoy a more positive experience when they go online this summer.
