Today we had a planned sounding of the fire alarm in school to practice a whole school evacuation. This went smoothly and allowed all our evacuation procedures to be tested. We will continue with our schedule of evacuation and lock down practice throughout the year to ensure that students understand their role in an evacuation or lockdown if it were ever necessary.

Last week in ICT, along with 45 other schools and over 4500 students in the Solent area, our KS3 students took part in Solent Coding Days. In collaboration with a major high street bank Solent Coding Days aimed to inspire children about the potential for coding in a digital future.
In their ICT lesson for the week students learnt about where coding is used in the world around us and developed their coding skills by developing a platform game using the Scratch coding language.

Experience of a Workplace
Thank you to all the parents who have supported the arrangement of placements for June’s Experience of a Workplace opportunity. Regrettably the deadline has now passed and we cannot accept any further requests. If your child has taken up this opportunity, they, yourselves and their employer will need to keep an eye on future emails from Unifrog about the logistics and planning arrangements of this placement. Many thanks once again.

Christmas jumpers day was a great success once again this year. We joined with schools across the country in celebrating Christmas Jumper Day and raising money for Save the Children. Every pound we raised will go towards helping children in the UK and across the world to get the best future possible. Click here to see our current total and donate if you wish.

A person’s drink can be spiked to make them more vulnerable for a variety of motives, including theft or sexual assault.
Different types of spiking can include the following substances being added to drinks: Alcohol, ‘Date rape’ drugs, Illegal drugs, Prescription drugs (e.g. stimulants, tranquilisers, sedatives, opiates)
Drink spiking can happen to any type of drink, whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic. The effects can be unpredictable but are likely to be more serious if someone who’s had their drink spiked has also consumed more alcohol, or other drugs. This is because of the combination of effects from the different drugs working at the same time.
Shots of alcohol can be added to drinks to make them stronger, causing someone to get drunk much quicker than expected. Or sometimes a drink can be spiked with drugs that are specifically designed to incapacitate someone.
Because there are no official statistics it’s difficult to know the true extent of the crime. Often people don’t report drink spiking, because they don’t remember details of the night, or they feel embarrassed.
It can be a scary experience and it’s important to be able to recognise the signs your drink has been spiked or how to help someone you suspect has been a victim.

Student Services
We are always open to support all students between 8:45am and 3:30pm. The best times for students to drop in are:
11:10-11:25am - Breaktime, 1:30-1:55pm - Lunchtime, 3:00-3:15pm - After School
If students need to attend during lesson time they must remember to register with their teacher and collect the orange lanyard before they come. As you can imagine, we welcome a large number of students on a daily basis. We, therefore, thought it may be useful to share with you the expectations of Student Services. We would be grateful if you could take a moment to discuss these with your child.

Basics Food Bank Appeal - Christmas 2023!
It is that time of year again for the Basics Bank Food Bank Appeal where we ask staff and students to donate food items to local families who are in need this Christmas.
It is really important that the right items are selected from the list provided and that all items are collected for your year group’s donation day. So, please take a look at the following slides that include all the important information you will need - click here.
This is a House competition and we are super keen to beat our total of 2785 items that we donated last year, which is around 45 items per tutor group. If everyone brought in 2 or more items we would smash that!

An safety guide on group chats.
Occurring through messaging apps, on social media and in online games, group chats are among the most popular ways that young people engage with their peers online. Involving, by definition, three or more individuals, these groups allow users to send messages, images and videos to everyone in one place. While they are useful for helping friends, people with shared interests or members of a club to communicate and coordinate activities, they can also leave young people feeling excluded and bullied – as well as providing opportunities for inappropriate content to be shared and viewed.
In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as bullying, inappropriate content and unknown members.
