Measles cases are rising across the country, with over 102,000 children starting primary school in England being at risk of catching the disease. We are asking education settings to share key messages from the NHS about MMR / measles and how to get vaccinated. Thank you!

Measles is highly infectious and if left unvaccinated nine out of ten children in a classroom can catch the disease if just one child is infectious. Please share these resources with colleagues, parents, and where suitable, community organisations to increase awareness and encourage parents to get their children vaccinated.

If your child has missed their first or second dose of MMR vaccine, contact your GP
practice to book an appointment. For more information visit the NHS Website

Congratulations to the 12 new House Captains in Y10 who were presented with their House Captain badges in Tuesday's assembly. These students will be joining the current Y11 House Captains until they leave for exams. I can’t wait to see their enthusiasm and passion for their house come through and really energise the Championship. The number of applications and nominations was incredible and made it a tough task to select. If anyone was unsuccessful, please don’t be discouraged, there are other student leadership opportunities such as Head students and prefect roles soon to be coming up! Speak to Mrs Marshall/Mr Hinks for more details.

What Children & Young People Need to Know about Free Speech vs Hate Speech

Freedom of expression is enshrined in international law. Some individuals, however, misunderstand the right to share their opinions as a license to target others with the most horrendous prejudice. So how do we balance people’s prerogative to have their voice heard against everyone’s right to live in a respectful, inclusive society?

This conflict frequently unfolds in the digital world. Online posters can be falsely accused of hate speech, while actual hate is often defended as merely being ‘free speech’. To help children and young people learn to identify the boundaries and recognise genuine hate speech when they see it, our guide provides some helpful definitions and guidelines.
