UPDATE - Year 10 - Solomon's Theatre - Tuesday 5th March - Change of performance
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Solomon’s Theatre will now be performing their play ‘The power of love’ as opposed to ‘Skin Deep’ as originally planned. This will take place on Tuesday 5th March for all Year 10 students and will involve students watching the play followed by an interactive workshop. The workshop will provide students with more detailed information about the key themes that occur within the play itself.
‘Power of Love’ is an educational show that explores exploitation and the forms of abuse, healthy relationships (the significance of respect, equality, trust and goodwill) and grooming. The play compliments the statutory RSE guidance, links in with the Relationship units that Year 10 have been completing in their Education for Life lessons ‘Family Matters and Exploring Influence’ and gives students the opportunity to learn more about the law surrounding these issues.

Wildern Chicks On Monday 26th February the science department took delivery of 10 eggs. We incubated them at 37C and at 3am Wednesday morning the first egg hatched, the second closely followed at 7:30am. As of Thursday afternoon seven of the eggs have hatched and are settling well, although they are very noisy! After 24 hours, once they are fluffy, the chicks are moved from the incubator into the brooder box where they have access to food and water. Although it is challenging to tell the sex of the chicks, the darker, redder chicks are female. Students have been able to see the chicks throughout the day and from Monday they will be appearing in science classes across the week for handling. Unfortunately, we say goodbye to them on Friday 8th March.

The Anti-bullying Ambassadors spent a day at Deer Park Secondary School. We were working with their Anti-bullying Ambassadors to create a student friendly Anti-bullying charter to be displayed around the schools. We spent the morning in groups getting to know each other and brainstorming ideas, ready to put together later on. After the break, we all got together and started planning and making the official school charter by putting all of the ideas together into one big finished product.
The Deer Park Anti-bullying ambassadors gave us a tour around their school, and we experienced a very different school environment/atmosphere compared to Wildern and got to see the different things they have put in place in order to support students in the school.
We all enjoyed creating a new student friendly charter for our schools whilst also making long lasting friendships in the process. We all have had an amazing experience working with Anti-bullying ambassadors from other schools to make our schools a safer and more comfortable environment to be in.

World Book Day 2024 (Thursday 7th March)
We're excited to announce a special initiative at Wildern School for this year's World Book Day on Thursday 7th March 2024. For the first time, we'll be celebrating World Book Day with a unique twist called Book Bounding!
What is Book Bounding, you ask? It's an exciting opportunity for our students to bring their favourite books and literary characters to life by dressing up in the colours or accessories that represent them best. Imagine seeing Hogwarts scarves, wizard hats, or even a touch of red for Little Red Riding Hood wandering the halls of Wildern School! read more here
But it's not just about fun and creativity – it's also about giving back to our community. We've decided to use this special occasion to raise funds for two incredibly important causes: the Wessex Cancer Trust and our school's library, known as the Learning Resource Centre (LRC).
The Wessex Cancer Trust provides invaluable support to individuals and families affected by cancer in our local community. By donating to this cause, we can help fund vital services and resources that make a real difference in the lives of those facing cancer.
Additionally, by supporting our school library, we're investing in the education and enrichment of our students. The funds raised will go towards acquiring new books, resources, and technology for the LRC, ensuring that our students have access to the tools they need to succeed and thrive.
We believe that with your help, we can make this year's World Book Day truly special and impactful. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in supporting these worthy causes. Let's come together as a community and show the world the magic of books while making a positive impact on those in need.
Please consider donating and sharing our campaign with your friends, family, and networks.
Our crowdfunding page will be available next week, and will be shared on Wildern’s social media accounts, as well as across school on World Book Day.
Together, we can make World Book Day 2024 at Wildern School an unforgettable celebration!
Thank you for your generosity and support.

Introducing our First Aiders at Wildern
Mrs Buckley and Mrs Parsons are qualified first aiders who support students' wellbeing and health. They administer daily medication and monitor ongoing health care needs, from complex to minor illnesses.
Should your child feel unwell at school or has sustained an injury, they will assess them, and call home should they feel it necessary. Please be aware that they are unable to diagnose or make clinical decisions and can only offer an opinion, as they are not medically trained professionals. This responsibility remains with the parent and the appropriate practitioner.
The role is very varied, and they see a great number of students daily. They maintain a record of all illnesses and incidents and report any concerns. Alongside this, they coordinate the teenage vaccinations, which are carried out by the Southwest Immunisation Team.
Our first aiders also support students' mental health by working closely with students, the Pastoral Team, outside agencies and liaising with Student Services who offer wellbeing drop-in sessions.
If you have any concerns regarding your child's health and wellbeing, please do get in touch.

10 Top Tips on Supporting Children with Self-Regulation
As infants, we all rely completely on adults to help us resolve situations that are causing us to become upset or stressed. This is known as co-regulation. The next phase, once autonomy has begun to develop, is called self-regulation: this is when children start to become capable of exercising more control over their impulses and behaviour, and managing their own emotions.
This vital developmental milestone, however, isn’t reached spontaneously. Learning to self-regulate requires sensitive guidance from trusted adults – simply talking with children about their thoughts and feelings, for instance, can ease the route to self-regulation. This guide has some expert tips for supporting children to reach this goal.
