Sport Relief fundraiser Non-school Uniform Day - 28th March.  All money raised will go to Sport Relief, part of Comic Relief, that aims to harness the power of sport to change lives. To come to school in non-school uniform students need to donate, £1-2 (or more if you are able!). We would love to hit our target of £2000, which seems very manageable if everyone gave £1 or half gave £2. Can you help us to help others? More details to follow.

Well done to our Year 10 Boys Football Team who are doing well at the top of Division 1

  --------------------------------------------------

This week is British Science Week!  So far students have been making bath bombs and fossils, investigating the best material for an astronauts nappy,  dissecting octopuses, designing a method of measuring time and practising their microbiology skills.

#talk2us is an online form that students can fill in at any time if they have any concerns or if they would like some support. Everything they write on the form is confidential and we will find a time to discreetly talk to them and address their concerns. The form can be found on the Wellbeing Hub of the school website.

Care Home Concert:  On Friday 8th March, we took 13 children to The Grange Nursing Home in Hedge End to perform a concert to the residents. We are very proud of our students, who  gave wonderful performances and conducted themselves in an exemplary manner. We are also very grateful to have received a generous donation to the school music department after the concert as the care home director, staff and residents were so impressed with our students' talents.

Spring Term 2 Parent Survey

Please click the button below to complete our very short Spring 2 term survey, which is focussing on Curriculum and Learning. There are just 6 questions which can be answered in as little as a couple of minutes, but also offers you the opportunity to expand on your answers if you would like us to know more. We are asking all parents to complete this as soon as possible.

We are always interested in hearing from everyone in our community about the things we are doing well and the things we perhaps need to improve. As part of our quality assurance processes we regularly speak to students in school about their experience but we also want to hear from Parents.

The survey will be open until 12pm Thursday 21st March and the results of this will be shared with parents at the end of the month.

Wildern Big Spring Clean - Saturday 16th March, 10am-12pm

As a Rights Respecting School, we understand the importance of caring for and protecting the environment.  As I am sure you are aware, environmental issues have become big news featuring in eye opening documentaries by the BBC, such as ‘Drowning in Plastic’. This is something we as a school are extremely passionate about as we want to make sure there is a sustainable environment in the future for our young people.

Here are 3 of the questions they have been asked to think about that you could discuss with your child:

In which subjects do you show your best behaviours for learning? Why?

In which subjects do you need to improve your behaviours for learning? How might you do this?

What changes do you need to make?

Student Services

We are always open to support all students between 8:45am and 3:30pm. The best times for students to drop in are:

11:10-11:25am - Breaktime, 1:30-1:55pm - Lunchtime, 3:00-3:15pm - After School

If students need to attend during lesson time they must remember to register with their teacher and collect the orange lanyard before they come. As you can imagine, we welcome a large number of students on a daily basis. We, therefore, thought it may be useful to share with you the expectations of Student Services. We would be grateful if you could take a moment to discuss these with your child.

For further advice or for information on the support both in and outside of school please visit our Wellbeing Hub

Year 9 Boys Football. WON 5-0  v Redbridge

Last week we reported this result: Wildern 4-2 Brookfield. But this week we just wanted to spotlight the result as it was a fantastic win for Year 10 at Wildern in what was the Hampshire cup semi final. This means that Wildern Year 10 are through to the final of the Hampshire cup! We will soon post details of this game as we know lots of parents and the community will want to come down and support.

Year 9 Work Skills Day

Friday 8th March was the culmination of National Careers Week and the return of our Annual Year 9 work Skills day. An event designed to immerse the students in a lesson of hands-on team building activities. Each student spent an hour in small groups working closely with dedicated volunteers to tackle challenges that required effective communication, trust, collaboration and motivation.

Some of the activities included students building towers and bridges out of spaghetti, Mountain Survival tasks, simulated emergency situations, and more.

We were also lucky enough to welcome back Baasit Siddiqui from the popular TV show “Gogglebox”. This unique experience provided an extraordinary opportunity for a  group of students to delve into the world of media and television production, with the aim of designing their own TV/media concept and pitching their final ideas to Bassit.

The day provided students with practical insights into teamwork and communication but also they discovered the value of motivation and perseverance in overcoming challenges.

What Parents & Educators Need to Know About Tekken 8

Since they were first played in arcades on oversized machines, fighting games have found their way not only into our homes via consoles and PCs, but also – in the case of franchises like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat – into the pop culture elite, with merchandise and movie adaptations. The most recent entrant to the arena is Tekken 8, which recently launched to critical acclaim.

With a cast of colourful combatants, Tekken offers an adrenalin hit of fast-paced fisticuffs and slick presentation. As with any fighting game, however, Tekken’s competitive nature and focus on violence may not be ideal for the younger element of its user-base. Our #WakeUpWednesday guide has some top tips for allowing fans of virtual martial arts to enjoy the action more safely.
