Hello, and welcome to this week's edition of the Wildern Weekly!

On Friday last week, our wonderful Focus Groups asked the wider school population to give their thoughts and opinions on key questions related to their objectives this year - student voice in full flow! The Hall was buzzing! The six Focus Groups we currently run, which facilitate a working partnership between staff and students, are based around six key areas of focus: Diversity, Rights Respecting Community (human rights), Eco, Mindset Builders (wellbeing), EdTech (new technologies) and Careers. Such important work and better done together!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had a great couple of days at Paultons Park with Year 7, 8, 9 and 10. The sun was on our side and we were able to enjoy all of the rides without the downpours we experienced last year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had to close on Thursday due to a burst water main outside the school and there we had no water in school or access to the school site.    We are considering ways to host Year 7/8 sports day next week and will be in touch with more info at the start of next week.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parent Information Evening - Welcome to…

We would love parents to join us for these events - these will be about highlighting the important aspects of the year ahead for your child's year group and how we work as a partnership to support students throughout the year.

Defibrillator (AED)

Many of us are intimidated by the thought of using a defibrillator (AED). But we shouldn’t be. They can be found in many public areas and are designed to be easy to use. You could be called on to use one at any time or place.

So, take a moment to find out how they work  – you could save someone’s life!

What Parents and Educators Need to Know about Online Trolling

The term “trolling” refers to sending hurtful or provocative comments – often done anonymously online – to provoke a reaction or cause emotional distress. Anonymity can embolden people into saying things they wouldn’t dare say in person. Euro 2024 and other tournaments tend to put an emphasis on this, with the abuse of both players and fans often increasing during such events.

This free guide explores the phenomenon of online trolling, detailing its risks and letting you know how to safeguard children from this harmful behaviour.

Some people online simply get a kick out of hurting people’s feelings, making it their mission to get a rise out of anyone they encounter. These people – known as “trolls” – are known for intentionally engaging in offensive or abusive behaviour to upset others online or provoke them into sinking to their level. At the height of events such as Euro 2024, when rivalries between various supporters reach an apex, trolling tends to see a bit of an uptick.

Unfortunately, while “just ignore them” is genuinely good advice, it can prove very difficult to put into practice. This is especially true for children and young people, who are often still learning how to manage their emotions and sometimes react impulsively to name-calling and other mistreatment.
