Hello, we are your new Head Student Team at Wildern School!

We are so excited to be a part of the student leadership team and can’t wait to begin supporting the school. Together we want to influence students in giving their own views and bring in ideas of what the students at Wildern are wanting. We aspire to make our school great and the best place for the students to be.

Tom:  As Head Boy, I am campaigning to get more boys involved in Dance; not letting other people define who we want to be. I really enjoy dance, performing arts and Dynamism Boys Dance club.

Maisie: As Head Girl, I am championing opportunities, a school council, a communication team, and developing revision skills. I enjoy many extra curricular sports and hobbies and really enjoy the Arts.

Michelle: As Deputy Head Girl, I aspire to help reduce bullying within the community and ensure every student’s voice is heard. I really enjoy humanities, creative arts and am an Anti-Bullying Ambassador.

Alice: As Deputy Head Girl, I want Year 7's to feel really supported and want to explore something like a buddy program. I really enjoy psychology, the creative arts and love helping within the school.

Exciting Careers Events at Wildern School

The Careers Team has been busy delivering a range of inspiring events since the start of the year, providing students with valuable opportunities to explore future career pathways.

To stay updated on upcoming events, opportunities, and behind-the-scenes highlights, follow our dedicated Careers social media pages: @wilderncareers on Instagram and X.

Year 7 – Dragons' Den Challenge

In January, our Year 7 students showcased their entrepreneurial flair in our annual Dragons' Den career event. This year’s challenge was to design the ultimate product for "the best night’s sleep in the sky," catering to airline passengers seeking maximum comfort. From innovative designs to impressive presentations, our students truly took off with their ideas! We were delighted to welcome Alison from Plane Talking Products as one of our esteemed dragons, and the winning team, Blobs Airline, wowed the panel with their creative concept.

Year 8 – Speed Networking Event

Our Year 8 students participated in a Speed Networking Day, designed to inspire them about the vast range of career options available after school. Small groups of students rotated between professionals from diverse industries, discussing job roles, career journeys, and future prospects. Their enthusiasm was outstanding, and their thoughtful questions led to engaging and meaningful conversations throughout the event.

Year 9 – Workskills Day

March brought an exciting Workskills Day for our Year 9 students, focusing on teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. We were thrilled to welcome incredible visitors, including representatives from the Police, Royal Navy, Law Experts, Heathrow Airport, Construction Consultants, and even Gogglebox star Baasit Siddiqui. Students tackled a variety of interactive challenges, from spaghetti constructions and life-saving techniques to business negotiations and engineering tasks. Every activity encouraged creativity and resilience, and we were incredibly grateful to our volunteers for sharing their expertise.

Year 10 & 11 – Apprenticeship Fair

February saw our Year 10 and 11 students and parents attend an Apprenticeship Fair, where they had the chance to explore career opportunities, engage with industry professionals, and take steps toward their future. It was fantastic to see so many students gaining insights into apprenticeship pathways and connecting with employers and training providers.

T-Levels Assemblies

Students in Years 8, 9, 10, and 11 attended an informative assembly on T-Levels, an exciting qualification that combines classroom learning with real-world industry experience. These sessions helped students understand how T-Levels can open doors to specialist careers and provided valuable insight into post-16 education options.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and engagement our students have shown throughout these events. We look forward to bringing even more fantastic opportunities to them in the coming months! If you would like to volunteer to support any of these events in the future please email the careers team careers@wildern.org

Portugal Exchange Trip

Our students returned from a fantastic exchange trip to Silves, Portugal, filled with unforgettable memories!

They immersed themselves in Portuguese culture, living with welcoming host families and savoring delicious local cuisine. Exploring the historic town and majestic Silves Castle offered a glimpse into Portugal's rich past, while two days spent in a local school fostered cross-cultural friendships and a deeper understanding of Portuguese education.

It was a truly enriching experience for everyone involved, and our students are now eagerly anticipating welcoming their Portuguese exchange partners to the UK in July!

Women's Day Poster Competition

Congratulations to the Winners of the Art International Women's day Poster competition: Bethany B & Oliwia S

National Oceanography Centre Trip

A massive well done to Evie D, Aiden D, Carlos G, Samuil K, Lizzie B and Filip W for designing, building, programming and pitching an awesome Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) at the National Oceanography Centre on Thursday 27 March.

You were all absolutely amazing and secured a very well deserved 4th place out of 10 teams!

STEM Fair Results

A huge well done to all students who entered the Wildern STEM Fair 2025!

We were really impressed with all entries and it was great to see so many amazing projects.

This week we are promoting getting involved in physical activities to look after not only our physical health but also support our mental health.

In conjunction with British Rowing, several of the rowing clubs on the South Coast are putting on rowing taster sessions for children who have never tried the sport before during the Easter holidays and beyond.

These are free of charge, last around 60 minutes, require no prior experience and give children a chance to try the sport.

We have also had information about the Personal Best opportunities for activities in the second week of the holidays. See the letter here for more info.

Welcome to our new Prefects & House Captains!

Last week, we were really proud to welcome our new Prefect and House Captain teams to their roles!

During the tie and badge presentations, we were able to congratulate them publicly and official recognise their new responsibilities.  The prefects were then given a tie-tying masterclass with Mr Knight to see them confidently into the mysterious world beyond clip on ties!

We are very much looking forward to the impact they will have over the next year!

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Streamers

Livestreaming is now a major part of children’s entertainment, evolving from gamers sharing screens into a booming industry with diverse personalities.

While watching streamers can be entertaining, it comes with no small number of risks for children, such as misinformation, negative influences, and inappropriate content.

With over 2.5 million viewers on Twitch – the current most popular streaming platform – at any one time, this guide highlights the potential dangers associated with watching livestreams and the importance of staying informed.

We’ve created this free guide – also available in podcast format – to provide parents and educators everything they need to know about streamers and how to keep children protected.
