Rights Respect and Community Focus Group
|
Today the Rights Respect and Community Focus Group were very fortunate to host our local MP, Paul Holmes.
They presented their Unicef OutRight Campaign on improving road safety in our local area, and these ideas have been taken away for discussion! Before touring our school, we also asked a number of questions submitted by students from across the school.
We are looking forward to working with him again and arranging a visit to London

Our amazing Year 7 to 9 Art Club students have been busy creating incredible pieces for the Climate Unity exhibition: "Small Worlds – Little Things Make a Big Difference."
Their thoughtful and creative work explores how even the smallest actions can have a powerful impact on our planet.
Come and see their work on display at Winchester Art Gallery from 11 July to 16 August. Let’s celebrate their talent and raise awareness through art!

Before the May half-term break, we had an unfortunate incident where a student brought henna ink into school and used it to tattoo another student's arm. Sadly, the student who received the tattoo had an allergic reaction to the henna.
This incident is a timely reminder of why we do not have henna and henna tattoos in school. The safety and well-being of our students are always our top priority, and products like henna can sometimes cause unexpected and serious allergic reactions.
We appreciate your support in upholding our school's safety and uniform expectations.

Learn Live Broadcast for Parent & Carers on Apprenticeship and Technical Education:
Join us for an exciting Learn Live event on Tuesday, 1st July at 6 PM, designed especially for Parents, Carers, and Guardians. This session will focus on Apprenticeships and Technical Education—key pathways for young people’s futures.
The broadcast supports The Gatsby Refinements, specifically covering:
- Critical role parents and carers play in shaping young people’s career decisions.
- Provide clear, accessible information to parents about all post-16 and post-18 options.
- Involve parents in career conversations and events.
- The refinements stress the importance of clarity around technical and vocational routes, including apprenticeships. This helps parents:
Understand the value and structure of apprenticeships and T Levels and compare them confidently with academic routes like A-levels and university. Support their children in making realistic and informed choices.
- Understand future job trends and the skills employers are seeking.
- Benchmark 7 (Encounters with Further and Higher Education) now
includes more structured exposure to technical education providers, ensuring that students and their families are aware of: Local apprenticeship opportunities. Technical colleges and training providers. Employer-led pathways and industry placement.
As influential figures in their lives, it’s essential we stay informed about the opportunities available. This broadcast will equip you with the latest insights and practical guidance to help you support and advise with confidence.

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Emojis
Emojis aren’t just digital decoration — they’re often used as a coded language that young people use to express identity, humour and emotion. Without context, they can easily be misunderstood by adults, leading to confusion or missed signals. Some emojis may even mask risky behaviours or emotional struggles.
This guide helps decode this ever-evolving language, empowering parents and educators to have more open, informed conversations with the children in their care. It also highlights the meaning of some common emojis and offers practical tips for staying clued-in without snooping or suspicion.
